He completed his urologic surgical residency at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine where he received specialized training in robotic and laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Nelson and his wife, Erin, have 2 children. When he is not helping patients, he enjoys spending time with his family, being outdoors, fishing, golfing, and playing chess.
